Den 1. april 1854 i det indre København, blev firmaet Permin grundlagt. Permin startede som og er stadig en familieejet virksomhed, dengang startet af Christian Permin. Det, som startede i det små, har gennem årene udviklet sig til et af de førende firmaer inden for håndarbejde. Dengang bestod vores sortiment nemlig udelukkende af produkter til broderi, hvor strik og garn sidenhen er kommet til. I dag er Permin totalleverandør til hele verden inden for alle artikler til broderi og strik; broderipakninger (kits), stof, broderi- og strikkegarn, opskrifter, tilbehør, osv. Strikkegarnet markedsføres under varemærket by Permin, hvor broderiet markedsføres under Permin - Danish Art Needlework.
